The Life Self-assessment – an overview

Taking control

Do you sometimes feel as though your life is out of control, but you don’t know where to start get on top of things again? Or you feel as though you are stuck in a rut, just going through the motions; and it feels as though something is missing, but you just don’t know what?

If you do, you are not alone. This is one of the most common complaints of the times we live in. People feel overwhelmed by all the demands on their lives, and they don’t know where to start to get things back under control. There are so many urgent things that they must do, that they can’t afford to focus on the important things in life that they want to do.

So, what people in this situation often do, is they want to hire a life coach, but don’t have the time or money for it, so they go to the self-help section of their local bookshop or library or use the internet. Once there, they realise that there are so many good books on various aspects of life, that they still don’t know where to start. But now they are so overwhelmed by all the information, that they feel even more out of control!

Since we live in the information age, obtaining information is not the problem, the problem is not knowing where to start to process all the information you are flooded with. You probably feel that you need a system that will help you to understand how everything fits together, so that you will know what to focus on first so that you don’t miss out on the important areas in life, because you’re so focussed on the urgent things.

This system has been designed to help you regain control of your life, by helping you figure out what exactly you need to change to lead a more fulfilled life or become “unstuck”. This realisation can be very empowering, because the moment you know what you need to focus on, you can make a plan to do something about it.

When you review your life on a regular basis, in this way, you will be clear about the next steps you need to take to regain control in your life.

Four Areas

To help you find a starting place, this system focuses on the four distinct areas of your life: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual; as each of these dimensions are important for us to function at our optimum level.

To delve a bit deeper, each of these areas are further divided into three sections, which are the main elements that will allow you to live a happier and more fulfilled life. However, if you really want to pinpoint exactly what you need to work on in your life, you need to look at the sub-sections of each of the 12 sections of your life. The more you set goals for yourself in these areas, the more accurately you are going to improve each part of your life. Although the questions in the Life Assessment will help you to evaluate these parts of your life, the book, Taking Control, explores each sub-section in more detail.

Once you know what you need to work on, you are going to have to take responsibility and do something about it. A simple process of improving any area of life is also discussed in Taking Control.
