Area 1: Character

Measuring whether you are a person whom others would follow willingly

Abraham Lincoln said that “Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.” Character is who you are deep down and eventually, the fruit of these roots will show in your life. Therefore it is vital that you work on developing a strong root system, a good character, if you want others to follow you because of who you are and what you stand for.

If you want to become the best leader you can be, start with the question: “who are you?” or even better: “who do you want to be?”

To help you evaluate where you currently are and how to develop this core element of leadership, we are going to look at three categories:

  1. knowing your purpose,
  2. practising servant-leadership and
  3. being trustworthy.
